Spring

SNOW WHITE: A THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS PANTO!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time one again for our Spring Pantomime!

This time around we’ll be following the adventures of Snow White as she takes a peek at what happens through the looking glass…!!!

Edward Speck and Josh Shack have planned yet another silly, surprising, playful Spring panto, free to all. Prepare for puns, princesses, passion and improbable plots with some of your favorite fairy tale and literary characters!

Dates: Saturdays and Sundays, June 3-25 & August 12
Time: 2pm
Admission: Free to all!

Summer

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM  &  ANTIGONE

Our talented ensemble will perform these two plays in repertoire throughout July and August. We invite you to spend a summer weekend at Maudslay…simply bring a picnic blanket and your imagination and join us for both A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Antigone. All performances are free to all.

Antigone Performance Dates: July 8, 9, 15, 16, 23, 30 and August 13.
Time: 
4 pm, 5pm on the 13th

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Performance Dates: July 22, 29 and August  13, 19, 20
Time: 4 pm, 1pm on the 13th

 FAMILY HOUR IN THE OPEN

Family Hour Logo Picture oak3borderBring the kids, the dog and the picnic blanket out to beautiful Maudslay State Park! One Saturday of every warm-weather month, we will be joined by many of our good friends in the community to present storytelling, song, dance, fairytale-theater and a fun group activity, all right here in the park and all entirely free! Come make a friend, sing a song, take in some sun and get to know your park better.

CIRCUS SMIRKUS: MIDNIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

Theater in the Open is proud to be partner with this remarkable organization once again for our Summer fundraiser!

In past years, the big sellers have been the Saturday shows; if you would prefer shorter lines and more leg room on the bleachers, consider attending the Friday matinee!

Tickets are $23 for adults and $19 for kids 12 and under. Tickets will be available at Eureka! at The Tannery and at the gate one 1/2 hour before the show.

Autumn

Join us for a special encore presentation of Poe in The Ellen T. Brown Memorial Chapel at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Newburyport.

Using music, macabre pageantry and shadow puppetry, Theater in the Open’s ensemble will explore the emotional tension and otherworldly atmosphere that underscore Poe‘s works.  Your favorite fearful Poe poems and stories come back to life this Fall!

Date: Sept. 22-24 & Sept. 29 – Oct. 1                                                                                  Time: 6pm
Location: Brown Chapel, Oak Hill Cemetary
Because of limited space in the chapel, this free event will require advanced registration. Please click here to reserve your free seat.

Parking is available at the municipal lots in downtown Newburyport. There is no parking at the venue although pick up and drop-offs on Brown street can be accommodated. This is an all ages show.

MAUDSLAY IS HAUNTED

TitoHM10_18_15-0617_originalTheater in the Open’s notorious annual haunting of Maudslay! Join a cast of all ages for a one-hour walk through eerie vignettes, spooky sketches and haunting scenes, all in the autumn grandeur of Maudslay State Park. Discover parts of the park you never knew existed. Bring the whole family for a variety of tricks and treats. This is a family event intended for all ages.

Gates are open from 2 – 4 PM.  Allow for a brief walk from the parking lot and follow the Frankenstein signs. Parking in the Maudslay State Park lot, $5 for parking ($10 for out of state vehicles).

Admission: $7; Children 3 and under free

Winter

THROUGH THE WARDROBE: A WINTER WONDERLAND PANTO!

Edward Speck and Joshua Shack bring back a favorite Theater in the Open holiday panto, Through the Wardrobe!  Fauns and turkish delight and pies-in-the-face return to the Firehouse Center for the Arts!  Why?  Because it’s panto time silly!  Will our heroes survive their adventures in the wardrobe?  Will good triumph over evil?  Will someone throw balled-up socks at you?  Yes, yes, and DEFINITELY.  See you for another holiday panto this December!

Admission: Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for Firehouse members, seniors and students and are available at www.firehouse.org
